Reviving South Asia’s Forgotten Heritage

The Nawab of Bahawalpur who put Rolls Royces reputation at stake. SADIQ MOHAMMAD V ABBASI

It all started in London on Bond Street located between Oxford Street and Piccadilly in the West End of London when His Highness casually walked into a Rolls Royce showroom to feel out the design, quality and request information about prices, features and specifications. But somehow was insulted by the sales person on duty who maybe misjudged because of the casual appearance and dressing of Nawab of Bahawalpur and thought that His Highness was just another penniless wasting his time and energy. This must have been the biggest mistake of his entire life.

The Nawab of Bahawalpur silently came back to his place and told his servants to call the showroom and tell them that the Nawab himself was interested in buying their cars. That was just it, a red carpet welcome was waiting for His Highness The Late Nawab of Bahawalpur. His Highness got there with his astonishing royal style, servants and of course in his royal costume. The Nawab purchased all six cars that were present at that time in the showroom with delivery service.

As soon as His Highness reached back home and the cars were delivered He ordered the municipal department to take control of these cars and use them for waste management of the city. The world’s best car of that time was used for transporting wastage of the city. This news spread all over the world very fast and was a shocker for the Rolls Royce company because their well earned reputation was at stake. Rolls Royce became a laughingstock as people used to reference Rolls Royce as a waste transporting van. This defamation of the company became unbearable and cost them a rapid drop in their revenue.
Hence, history was made which made him known among many.
